Dental radiographs can give your veterinarian much more information about the health of your pet’s mouth than visual inspection alone. This can include toot root abscesses, jaw bone abnormalities or loss, fractures, and tooth root resorption.
While your pet is under general anesthesia, a small probe is place in the mouth beside the teeth to be imaged. A radiographic image is obtained, and immediately uploaded to a computer. This gives us an instantaneous picture of what is happening below your pet’s gum line. One the entire mouth is radiographed, your veterinarian can tackle all the problems in your pet’s mouth, usually under the same general anesthesia. If any extractions are required, a radiograph is also taken afterwards to ensure that the entire tooth has been extracted.
